Beer analysis according to MEBAK standards

The Central European Board for Brewing Analysis (MEBAK) has developed harmonised standards for the analysis of raw materials, auxiliary materials and consumables. With the NANOCOLOR UV/VIS II you can easily and reliably analyse all photometrically evaluable parameters, such as.

Diacetyl analysis by the EBC method

Colour of beer

●Bitterness

Butanedione (VDK)

●Ph, trace iodine

Free Amino Nitrogen (FAN)

Other parameters

New reagents for testing VDK and bitterness

The new reagent can be used for VDK (985010) and Bitterness (918172) testing. With the NANOCOLOR Bitterness Reagent (918172), bitter substances (mainly iso-alpha-acids) in beer are extracted from beer samples using iso-octane and then measured in the 275 nm UV range using a 10 mm quartz test tube.

VDK can be determined quickly and easily using the NANOCOLOR preloaded tube reagent (985010).Butanedione reacts with phenylenediamine derivatives to form quinoline derivatives, which are determined photometrically using a wavelength of 335 nm.

For the determination of o-phenylenedione according to MEBAK or for the determination of o-phenylenedione with NANOCOLOR pre-filled tube reagents, steam distillation must be used to prepare the sample solution. We have compiled the test setup and the required materials in a customer information brochure.

Filter paper for brewery laboratories

MACHEREY-NAGEL has 111 years of experience in the production of high-quality filter papers.

Breweries have a wide range of requirements for filter paper, and different grades of filter paper differ in parameters such as retention capacity, filtration speed and grammage. Therefore, breweries use a wide range of different filter papers.

Depending on the application, MACHEREY-NAGEL always offers the most suitable filter paper.

Folded filter papers for rapid decarburisation of beer. (MN 616, MN 514, MN 520)

Nitrogen-free filter papers for malt analysis (MN 614)

Thicker (MN 616) or diatomaceous earth coated papers (MN 660), as well as filter films for clarifying clear yeast samples.

Test strips for rapid analysis on site

QUANTOFIX test strips are suitable for quick tests on production sites. They are often used to check whether a parameter exceeds a limit value, e.g. chlorine dioxide at a dosing station. Test strips are also suitable for the detection of disinfectant residues in rinse water, as well as for quick and easy control of parameters in production that cannot be distinguished by the senses. For example, sugar-free soft drinks can be reliably distinguished from sugary soft drinks.

With our test strips, the following parameters can be detected.

Residual chlorine

Peroxides

Peroxyacetic acid

Chlorine dioxide

Glucose

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C)

Brewery Wastewater Testing

The NANOCOLOR range of analytical products provides fast and reliable analysis of brewery wastewater. In addition, the products are also suitable for the operational analysis of wastewater treatment plants. In particular, MACHEREY-NAGEL has seven iso-compliant reagents for COD analysis in its portfolio. In addition the reagents for ammonia, nitrate and total nitrogen are also iso-compliant.

The NANOCOLOR range of analytical products is particularly easy to use and is therefore the preferred choice for routine analysis, self-monitoring and analysis of brewery wastewater.

Innovative spectrophotometers

To ensure consistently good quality, raw materials, products and processes, as well as waste water, all need to be analysed as part of quality control. With the NANOCOLOR VIS II spectrophotometer, MACHEREY-NAGEL provides every brewery with an instrument for all stages of the brewing process as well as for the complete analysis of the product.
