More than 15 years of successful growth for leading edge technology company
Perfection from diamond rings to HSS cutters
OTEC Präzisionsfinish GmbH in Straubenhardt develops and manufactures innovative machines for cost-effective high-precision surface finishing. In only ten years the company has expanded rapidly to become one of the world’s leading technology companies in this sector. Today, OTEC has a worldwide distribution network providing local services to its international customers.
From a business start-up to a world leader in technology
Since 1996 OTEC has expanded from a small manufacture of polishing machines for the local jewellery and watchmaking industry to become a truly global player. It all started with a vision: perfect surfaces, achieved quickly and cost-effectively. Soaring labour costs led the jewellery industry to look for new solutions. Manual surface treatment during manufacturing or service operations was causing prices to escalate and threatening export sales.
This is where the disc finishing and drag finishing processes are called for. They enable workpieces of any shape or weight to be deburred, ground, burnished or polished in a very short time and with great precision. The disc finishing process facilitates economical, perfect and fast surface treatment and is ideally suited to small workpieces. For heavy workpieces and complex shapes, drag finishing machines are used to provide a high-precision finish in an automated process. Machines for separating the finished workpieces from the processing medium and for reprocessing the resultant waste water complete the OTEC range. Before choosing the best system for their requirements, prospective customers can have a sample of work processed free of charge in OTEC’s test laboratory. This service is available to all customers world wide.
Helmut Gegenheimer, founder and managing director of OTEC quickly recognised the enormous potential of these new processes. Their range of applications has continued to expand through ongoing research and development. Over the years, OTEC has repeatedly been able to determine the correct processing media and calculate the right application parameters for an expanding range of materials, workpiece geometries and process objectives.
Highly versatile
OTEC’s patented finishing machines are currently revolutionising many industries. For the first time ever, results can be obtained with an automated process which were previously only attainable through manual processing. In medical engineering, the pharmaceutical industry, the automotive and the electrical industries, the benefits of this technology have already been recognised: The life of shaping and cutting tools is increased by the use of the drag finishing process; the surface friction of medical implants is considerably reduced by the high quality finish achieved. Amongst the most popular OTEC products are those of the ECO series. Customers like to operate these compact benchtop units directly next to their CNC machines in order to ensure simple, efficient and speedy deburring and top-quality surface finishing. Thanks to the high quality of their workmanship, these machines bearing the legend, “Made in Germany” are renowned for their trouble-free operation and long service life.
OTEC GmbH specialises in precision engineering for the creation of perfect surfaces. OTEC machines offer cost-effective deburring, grinding, burnishing and polishing of tools and products. A network of over 40 agents and distributors enables OTEC to provide a local service for its international customers from many branches of industry. OTEC’s customers benefit from the comprehensive know-how of this technology leader and the company's ability to determine the perfect combination of machine and processing medium.
